The drug discovery process is rarely straightforward. At Venner Shipley we recognise that to achieve optimal outcomes involvement from an early stage is desirable. We seek to work collaboratively with medicinal chemistry teams to evaluate white space for exploration in often highly crowded areas, to mould investigational strategies to maximise the likelihood of robust patent protection, and to determine appropriate patent filing strategies before even commencing the patent drafting process.

We are highly experienced in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications relating to small chemical entities, from single applications through to large and complex portfolios, with a sizable team devoted to handling such matters on a daily basis. Our experience is underpinned by firm academic foundations, with the majority of the team holding a PhD and/or having research experience in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. Complementing our work are our colleagues who specialise in biologics and biotechnology (see here for details), whose expertise is called upon as required.

We are committed to driving success in this fast-moving field. We are skilled at adapting drafting and prosecution strategies, in response to clinical outcomes, competitor activity and commercial need as the situation develops. We have been successfully advising pharmaceutical innovators for many years and have gained a reputation for providing a high quality, client-focused service. We believe it is through this close collaborative approach that optimal outcomes are achieved.
