Profile

Rachel is a UK and European Patent Attorney in our Chemical and Life Sciences team. Since joining Venner Shipley, Rachel has gathered experience in drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications in a wide variety of technical areas including pharmaceuticals, synthetic organic chemistry, materials, polymers and medical devices.

Rachel studied Chemistry at the University of Oxford where she was awarded the Brian Bannister prize in Organic Chemistry for her final year project which involved the synthesis of novel compounds for spin labelling of DNA. In Cambridge, her doctoral studies focused on the total synthesis of natural product analogues as cytotoxic warheads for incorporation into antibody – drug conjugates. Rachel was awarded a highly commended thesis prize by the University of Cambridge for the remarkable contribution her PhD thesis made to this field.

Education

Rachel graduated from the University of Oxford in 2015 with a first class degree in Chemistry before completing her PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Cambridge in 2019.

Since entering the profession, Rachel has obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law with distinction from Queen Mary, University of London where she was also awarded the Trade Mark Law Director Prize for outstanding academic achievement.

Rachel has passed both UK final exams, FD1 (advanced IP law and practice) and FD4 (infringement and validity), and was awarded the Strode prize for achieving the highest mark in the country on the advanced IP law and practice paper. Rachel passed the EQE in 2023.
