Martin is a European and Chartered Patent Attorney in our Chemical and Life Sciences team.
Martin advises and represents clients on patent issues relating to chemical subject matter across a broad range of technical fields. This includes pharmaceuticals, particularly small molecule new chemical entities, formulation chemistry, drug delivery, polymorphic forms. Martin is also experienced in medicinal devices, polymer chemistry, films and fibres, materials, petrochemicals, process chemistry, formulation chemistry.
Martin has extensive experience of prosecuting patent portfolios globally as well as prosecuting European and UK patent applications and has managed several pan-European SPC portfolios.
Martin particularly enjoys representing clients at opposition and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office. This experience enables Martin to develop patent strategies aimed at producing robust patents.
Working in-house at a multinational consumer goods company has given Martin experience of how to give commercially relevant tailored advice and how to use intellectual property to support a business. While in-house, Martin advised on all matters relating to patents, including drafting and prosecuting applications, opposition (defence and attack), freedom-to-operate analysis and opinions, validity opinions, portfolio management, invention harvesting and training of colleagues, both IP specialists and other business partners such as R&D colleagues and colleagues in marketing.
Education
Martin has a first-class honours degree in Chemistry and a DPhil in Chemistry, both from the University of Oxford. Martin also has a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Brunel University London and has been awarded the Intellectual Property Litigation Certificate by IPReg.
