Profile

Alexandra is a European and UK Patent Attorney in our Electronics, Software and Communications team. She drafts and prosecutes patent applications and manages patent portfolios across a broad range of electrical, software and telecommunications technologies, helping companies protect their innovations from initial concept through to grant.

Alexandra’s technical background spans semiconductor physics, computer modelling and electrical technologies. Her academic experience also includes research in photovoltaic devices and solar energy technologies, providing a strong foundation for understanding innovations in renewable energy, energy technologies and the wider cleantech sector.

Alexandra has a particular interest in technologies supporting decarbonisation and the energy transition, including renewable energy generation, energy storage, smart energy networks, power electronics and software-enabled solutions that improve energy efficiency and sustainability.

Education

Alexandra graduated from the University of Durham with a first class honours degree in Physics with English Literature, specialising in condensed matter physics, semiconductor materials and photovoltaic technologies. Her Master’s project focused on improving the optical efficiency of thin-film solar cells through computational modelling and experimental verification, providing an early foundation in renewable energy technologies.

She was awarded a PhD in Engineering Physics from University College London following research into the high-speed frictional properties of ice, with a particular focus on the interaction between ice and steel. This work involved the design, modelling and testing of high-performance sports equipment used by Team GB athletes at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Working at the intersection of scientific research, engineering design and elite sporting performance gave Alexandra valuable insight into the technical and commercial pressures that drive innovation and product development.
