Our chemistry group includes attorneys with experience of fields including polymer-based products for a wide range of applications including adhesives and paints, detergents and inks. Patent claims in this area include claims to novel compounds and compositions and materials and processes for making these compounds and compositions. Particular challenges that can arise for such claims include cases where it is difficult or impossible to define a substance in terms of its structure – for example, cases where it is necessary to define a product in terms of its properties or the process by which it is made – and our attorneys are well-versed in dealing with such issues both for patentees and opponents. We also have experience in the growing field of green chemistry, for example recycling of polymers from plastic products.
