Simon Taor

Profile

Simon is a European and Chartered Patent Attorney in our Electronics, Software and Communications team. In addition to working with large multinationals, he has a large amount of experience working with universities, tech start-ups and SMEs.

He has a vast amount of experience drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications in a number of fields from general mechanical and electrical work through to Internet related subject matter and computer implemented inventions. In particular, he has worked on patent applications related to semiconductor devices, optical devices, display devices, energy storage devices, fault protection systems, data processing, electronic payment methods, and mobile telecommunications.

In addition, Simon is an expert on patent standards, and heads the firm’s standards team. Simon has drafted and prosected patent applications targeting a number standards, including 5G NR, Versatile Video Coding (VVC) and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). He has also carried out a large number of standard essentiality evaluations in a variety of fields, including mobile telecommunications, audio decoding (MPEG-4 AAC), and mapping technologies.

Education

Simon graduated from Oxford University with a master’s degree in Materials Science, where he specialised in semiconductor device fabrication and magnetic properties of materials. As part of his course he carried out a research project on the microstructure and magnetic properties of high performance solenoid materials. Simon also has a certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
