Maia Briggs

Maia is a Trainee Patent Attorney in our Electronics, Software and Communications team having joined Venner Shipley in September 2026.

Maia previously worked at GMV as an intern robotics engineer on fast moving lunar rovers, focusing on deploying LiDAR and other sensors into GMV’s GNC system. She also worked as a robotics lab technician at the University of Edinburgh for both the Informatics Makerspace, System Design Project, and Entrepreneurship Innovation Project courses. This involved using, maintaining, and teaching students how to use electronics and robotics equipment including 3D printers, PCB fabricating equipment, Arduino, and robot platforms.

Education

Maia graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh in 2025. Her final-year dissertation involved investigating and developing a robotic guide dog to assist the blind and visually impaired. This focused on developing a guiding system which maintained an ideal guiding distance between the robot dog and provided environmental information of the surroundings, as well as the building and testing of the system on a physical robot prototype.
