UPC is getting closer
With news that Austria deposited its instrument of ratification of the Protocol on the Provisional Application (PPA) of the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA), the Unified Patent Court (UPC) opening in 2022 is becoming more likely.
As the 13th member state to approve the PPA, after so many years of uncertainty, the provisional application period can commence and final preparations can be made for the arrival of the European Unified Patent Court (UPC) and European patent with unitary effect. It is thought that this period will need to last for at least 8 months before the UPC can commence. So the UPC and European unitary patent could be with us this year!
