Venner Shipley will be virtually attending and presenting at the BIO Korea 2021 international convention, taking place on 9 – 11 June 2021.
BIO Korea brings together various international academics, professionals and CEOs of global bio companies to obtain, exchange, and discuss diverse affairs centered around biotechnology. Anton Hutter and Simon Taor have been invited to present a 15 minute virtual presentation taking place on 10 June. Their presentations will cover:
Patenting antibodies and vaccines in Europe – we have the antidote!
Anton’s presentation will explain the EPO’s current position on the patentability of antibodies and vaccines, giving examples of allowable claim language, and the data requirements to support such claims. He will also explain the new EPO Examination Guidelines for assessing antibody inventions in Europe, and suggest ways in which broader claims can be secured.
Patent eligibility on inventions in digital health related to telemedicine, AI and internet of things (IoT), etc. under EPO practice
Simon’s presentation will discuss patent eligibility issues at the EPO, focusing on how these issues affect digital health. The presentation will discuss the EPO’s approach to patent eligibility in areas such as telemedicine, AI and internet of things (IoT).
In addition, Simon will provide an update on G1/19 and how it may affect future EPO practice relating to digital health. The presentation will aim to provide practical guidance for drafting patent applications in this area, and for getting such patents granted at the EPO.
